Pierre, SD officials say they have had discussions with Eagle Creek Software Services about building a second Pierre center, but they say they do not know yet what the role of the city would be in such a project.
On Wednesday, Eagle Creek Software Services CEO Ken Behrendt said he hopes to build a second center in Pierre perhaps as early as late 2014. A second center would mean another 125 to 175 jobs.
Mayor Laurie Gill and Pierre Economic Development Corporation executive director Jim Protexter say they have had several conversations lately with Behrendt about the idea. Both say when such a move would take place would be up to Eagle Creek.
When Eagle Creek first came to Pierre six year ago, the city was instrumental in the effort as PEDCO purchased the land and constructed the building. Total cost was $5.1 million.
What the city's role would be in a second building is not yet known. But Gill and Protexter say they are talking to Eagle Creek about possible options and scenarios.
